This volume

grouped into 16 chapters: background data; national accounts;
prices and exchange rates; money and banking; external sector;

Each chapter
begins with a brief introduction on the nature of the data and their
limitations, followed by a set of statistical tables, charts, and
technical notes that define the indicators and identify their specific
source. Included this year are new tables on HIV/AIDS, Communications
and Transportation, the HIPC Debt Initiative, and Household Welfare
Indicators.
World
Bank Africa Database 2003: This CD-ROM offers a comprehensive
database with year-by-year time series of most indicators going
back to 1970. This portable database on Africa contains over 1,200
indicators of macro-economic, sectoral, and social data for 53 African
countries and 20 regional country groups. These series provide analysts
data needed to help place the most recent years in a historical
context. It also contains the Country at-a-Glance tables for all
African countries, Excel based Executive Summary Briefings, and
the electronic copy of the publication tables.
The CD-ROM and
book are designed to provide all those interested in Africa with
a focused and convenient set of data to monitor development programs
and aid flows in the region. Both are invaluable reference tools
for analysts and policymakers who want a better understanding of
the economic and social developments occurring in Africa.
