The World Bank is pleased to present the Africa Live Database to the general public! A comprehensive database of macroeconomic and sectoral indicators, the Africa Live Database is an invaluable source of information for those who collect and analyze data relating to African countries. With a mere click of a button, you can access the most complete and up-to-date public collection of World Bank statistics and analyses on the Sub-Saharan countries. A Windows ExcelTM-based software package, the database covers macroeconomic, social, and sectoral data for countries as well as twenty regional groupings. The Database allows you great flexibility in retrieving and organizing your data either by country or indicator. It allows you to transfer your display to a working document. Special features --data benchmarking, charting, and ranking-- are available in most options of the database.

This site aims to bring together information and resources related to statistics in Africa, both from within the World Bank and from many other sources identified by World Bank staff. News, Events and Key Issues will highlight happenings in the world of statistics of potential interest to the community working in relation to statistics in Africa. We will be happy to post information received from other organizations, or link to information on your own Web site. The principal objective of the Debt Initiative for the heavily indebted poor countries (HIPCs) is to bring the country's debt burden to sustainable levels, subject to satisfactory policy performance, so as to ensure that adjustment and reform efforts are not put at risk by continued high debt and debt service burdens.

Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) household surveys have become an important tool in measuring and understanding poverty in developing countries. The Development Economics Research Group (DECRG) of the World Bank, formerly the Policy Research Department, maintains this website to make available to researchers around the world the data sets and methodological lessons from these surveys.
