AFRICA POVERTY MONITORING

A member of a society is considered poor if his or her living standard falls below an acceptable norm according to the prevailing socio-cultural values in that society.
Poverty monitoring is taken to be any process designed to gather, store, analyze and disseminate information on the distribution of the living standard within a given society.
The importance of such an activity is linked to the analytical need of policy design, implementation and evaluation.

After a short presentation, this section describes the
desirable properties of a poverty monitoring and analysis system
and presents the Poverty Monitoring Data Bank.
It furthermore discusses the issues of sustainability and institutionalization in designing an action plan to support poverty monitoring and analysis systems in SSA.
